Insurgents killed two members of NATO's mission to Afghanistan in the south of the country Wednesday, the multinational force said. NATO didn't let go the names of the service members killed or say exactly where the assault took place. Ten service members with the international alliance have died so far this month.
A suicide bombing former this week in the southern area of Kandahar, which remains a source of Taliban activity regardless of an influx of U.S. troops over the past year, killed a retire U.S. Customs and Border fortification officer and offended three other U.S. customs workers.
U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said in a report released late Tuesday in Washington that David Hillman, a retire customs officer who had worked for the U.S. government for 30 years, died in the explosion Monday at the Inland Customs Warehouse in Kandahar. Afghan police said the suicide bomber exploded a cache of explosive within the city's customs house complex throughout a visit by NATO forces.
