Pakistan court extends detention of U.S. diplomat

The case of Raymond Davis has become the newest test of ties between the two countries with anti-U.S. Islamist groups hard Islamabad oppose U.S. calls to gratis him.

Washington says Davis is a diplomat and has called for his immediate release. He was under arrest a week ago after shooting dead two Pakistanis in the city of Lahore in what Davis says was an act of self-preservation during an attempted theft.

The Lahore High Court on Tuesday barred the route from handing him over to Washington, saying it would settle on whether he has subtle imperviousness or not. Amid tight security, police brought Davis in a rock-hard car to come out ahead of a magistrate in Lahore on Thursday. The media were barred from the court transactions.
